Dr. Peninah Kitili completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies (Master's in Paediatrics) at the University of Nairobi between 1978-1984 and 1987-1990. She further pursued her education at the University of Vienna in Austria, earning a Diploma in Dermatology and Venereology from 1994 to 1995. Dr. Kitili served at Kenyatta National Referral and Teaching Hospital in Kenya for 33 years, retiring in October 2017. Throughout her career, she worked as both a consultant paediatrician and dermatologist and has been the sole practitioner in Kenya combining both specialties since 1995. She was the Head of the Department of Dermatology from 2002 to 2010 and also served on the ethics and research committee, guiding over 500 students between 2004 and 2012. Dr. Kitili contributed to the development of the first strategic research plan for the University of Nairobi and has been a board member of the American Vitiligo Research Foundation since 2008. Additionally, she is a member of the Technical Committee for Cosmetics and Related Products at the Kenya Bureau of Standards, working on harmonizing regulations across East African countries. She is actively involved in multiple professional organizations, including the Kenya Association of Dermatologists, the Kenya Paediatric Association, and the European Society of Paediatric Dermatology, among others. Currently, Dr. Kitili practices full-time at her clinic at Nairobi Hospital and has authored dermatology chapters in key health treatment guidelines for both the Ministry of Health in Kenya and African Medical Research and Evacuation Foundation (AMREF).
